Following on from the work we started last year, the Parish Council have continued to make improvements to the churchyard. The path has had weedkiller applied to kill the grass and weeds which were starting to grow through – this will be repeated periodically as needed. A Contractor has been engaged to carry out the mowing around the church. Coupled with volunteers who will strim around the gravestones, this should keep the churchyard looking tidy. An area will be left untended to the north of the church (where there are no graves) as a wildlife/biodiversity area. Posts with ropes and signs will be erected over the next few weeks to demarcate this area and explain its purpose.
Three large sycamores have been felled along the southern boundary of the churchyard. These were very close to and overhanging the retaining wall in this area with the wall having collapsed in places due to root spread. The wall is planned to be rebuilt in the near future.
You may have noticed some new planters by the Lych Gate. These were kindly created and donated by one of the Councillors and have already attracted compliments.
Finally, branches have been cleared around the Burton Hall arch and an information sign erected to explain the significance and origin of the arch.
